DDR 2 or DDR 3?

Gonna upgrade my mono/CPU should I upgrade to DDR 3? If I do upgrade to DDR 3 will my graphics card still work if it's DDR 2?
 
Yes, it doesn't matter what type of memory your video card has compared to the memory of the motherboard.

Some graphics cards even have DDR5, which doesn't even exist on desktops.

Anyways, unless the CPU/mobo you're planning to buy only supports DDR3 or your current DDR2 set is dog slow (something like 533/677 with horrible latencies) or mistmatched (different speeds/capacities), upgrading the memory is pretty pointless as the performance increase is minimal and not even noticeable in majority of real-world apps.
 
If you do upgrade go with the ddr3 it is nearly the same price as ddr2 and gets about 1.5x performance which may be negligible anyways.
