DDR2 ram on AM2+ mobo with AM3 cpu?

Hey all,

Let me see if I can even make my question make sense here. (bare with me) :)

I've got an AM2+ socket mobo that supports DDR2 RAM @ 1066 on dual channel. It says that the RAM will run at 1066 only with a AM2+ cpu.

If I were to put in a AM3 cpu (the mobo supports it and bios flashed), would the RAM still run at 1066? When it says *only with AM2+ cpu, does that mean it has to be AT LEAST AM2+ and AM3 will support it at 1066, or will the RAM speed drop to 800 or something? Should I even need to worry about it if the speed is reduced, or will it not make much difference?

AM3 cpu is:

Let me know if you need further info.

Rig in my sig.

Thanks for any thoughts, comments, ideas.

As long as the chip has a DDR2 controller you'll be fine. From what I hear, bulldozer is going to drop DDR2 support.

Bulldozer is AMD's next generation of CPU's, 8 and 12 cores :) they will likely be AM3 and AM3+

You'll be fine with the current Phenom II / Athlon II line. As long as your mobo supports the wattage, even the new hexacore Phenom II models will work in AM2+.
