DDR2 versus DDR3 Ram

Is DDR3 ram really that much better than the DDR2 ram? The price difference is crazy, but is it worth it?
 
In my opinion, no. DDR3 is a lot faster but that speed isn't really needed.

I was to the understanding that ddr3 used less power aswell. But the price and lower speeds aren't worth paying.

The latencies aren't that important and they aren't much worse than DDR2 latencies. Still, RAM has lots more bandwidth than can get to the CPU right now so you don't gain as much by making your just your RAM faster.

Nice catch! I should've worded it better. I meant that ddr2 is probably the better choice right now.:D

firsttimebuilder, you should really try to use correct grammar when you type. At first glance it looks like you said "DDR3 memory has better timings".

or you could use some 23$ (after rebates) 4-4-4-12 ddr800 ram and lose, what, 1FPS?
 
ddr3 can be undervolted and downclocked to have tighter timings than ddr (i think), but still, the ridiculous price you pay for the performance compared to ddr2 is not even worth it
 
well that 250$ set there has relative timings to even my ram, 9-9-9 so the timings arent really that much better.
