Ddr3 help!!

Hi all,
going on newegg to shop for computer parts (thinkin bout upgrading) and i have a quick question. If i buy a motherboard that supports 240 pin ddr3 memory, DUAL CHANNEL. can i buy the g-skill 6gb ram that is TRIPLE CHANNEL and it still be compatible? And one more thing do i need to buy that thermal goop or does my heatsink (that ships with the processor) come with it? Thanks
 
If your have a Dual Channel board, kinda pointless getting Tri Chanel memory kit. Get either two or four sticks. Yes retail CPUs come with compound.
