How much faster is DDR3 compared to DDR2? Is DDR3 worht the price that it costs or is it better to stay with DDR2?

As he said, it's not worth it now because the timings are much higher on DDR3 modules, even though they are clocked higher. This is the same exact thing that happened when DDR2 came out, where DDR400 was still the best performer.

I would wait at least several months for the prices to come down, and timings and speeds to improve before getting it.

Theres also DDR3-800 with a CL of 6 (dont remember the detailed timings).

When they compared DDR3-800 CL6 to DDR2-800 CL4, I believe the DDR2 outperformed it. But DDR3-1066 was on par with low-latency DDR2-800.

The latencies are a little high but the bigger problem is that the clock speed of DDR3 isn't that high yet. As others have said, I would stick with DDR2 until DDR3 gets a little older.

I would go with the DDR2 533. It's newer, would most likely have a performance increase over DDR 400 RAM, probably runs cooler due to lower voltage requirements, and most of the newer boards are using DDR2 RAM slots nowadays.

the latencies are the smaller the better, and conversely, the speeds are the higher the better, i believe.. am i right or wrong?

decent timing are as low as you can get them, 7-7-7-18 isn't great

They are pretty good, look at the speed it's running at. The relative timings don't look that fast but in actual time it's pretty fast. Have a look at the last heading on this post: http://www.computerforum.com/87687-post8.html

I think it's safe to say that those timings will never happen on DDR3.

So if i'm running DDR2 400 I should have them set to 5-5-5-5?

DDR3 is totally different, the speed in the link he posted runs at DDR3-1600 with a CL of 7, your thinking of DDR2-800 which runs with a CL of 4-5.

DDR3 doesnt show a huge improvement over DDR2 - yet. As technology advances DDR3 will have faster speeds and lower timings. This is exactly what happened when DDR2 first came out.
