DDWRT/3rd party router software.

Are there any performance gains from using dd wrt or third party software in my router vs using the default software? I know the UI changes and wifi power have more options, but are there actual performance gains in network speeds/transfer rates?

thanks!

Depends on the model and make. Some of them have such crappy firmware there really is a lot to gain. Some only gain small amounts. In my experience you usually also get a stability increase, but that's also dependent on the model.

I really dislike most of the interfaces on routers. Love dd-wrt's interface though :)

Performance is worse on my Asus RT-N16 router with DD-WRT or Tomato, but I continue to use it because of it's VPN and monitoring tools.
