I finally connect all the wiring to my asus m2n sli-e motherboard and when i boot it won't even load to bios!! The cpu fan spins then stops spinning.

what do you guys think could be the problem? i bought the motherboard from tiger direct but i heard they provide horrible customer service. grrrr im frustrated.

what do you guys think seems to be the problem? is it because it's an am2 and not an am2+ board? im using an amd phenom quadcore btw.

There's a few things to try before ending up returning a bad board there. First recheck all of the connections in case you missed one or have the power switch wires mixed up. Another thing that happened here when swapping supplies on the last build was the need to unplug and then very lightly replug the four wire 12v cpu feed back in due to a loose contact in the plug there.

On the new build in late August the first board an Asus M2N-E quit after 3 days of use and had to be returned for the second attempt with the same model. The 2nd one is going strong when the first saw the fan and the power led spark for 1 or 2 seconds only. Bad caps or a defective bios chip was likely. Last year a friend went through 3 Asus boards with the 3rd being a different model since the vendor stated probably receibing a bad batch of boards and likely bad caps then as well.

yeah it's all wired correctly. it's snapped on into the right places on the motherboard. the psu is good. everythng is brand new. im just pissed off that it didn't boot at all and I wasted my time. i thought ill try amd out for once and this experience has made me not to get amd ever again even though i have heard good things but intel has never failed me and always worked on my first boot. And asus sucks i have used asus before too and that motherboard died also. now im just annoyed.

Check that 12v cpu feed idea since that can catch you offguard easy enough. I even started a thread about that back in April to have people look into that before automatcially assuming a board had come in doa. http://www.computerforum.com/80790-bad-board-simply-need-replug.html

AMD has nothing to do with a bad board unless a board using one of their chipsets came in bad. In fact bad caps are far more common a problem then anything else for a variety of products. One site started in 2002 summs that up nicely as seen at http://www.badcaps.net/pages.php?vid=2

What I ran into with the new supply then was simply plugging that in and not getting anywhere until replugging it in super lightly until the retainer barely clicked into place. The plug was in correctly then as well but saw a loose contact be the problem, That's the least expensive option while a board or cpu most likely the board there will cost in shipping anyways.

The thermal paste/compound used wouldn't have had any time to see any breaking occur since the system never started up. The cpu getting hot that fast points at one or the other as far as board or cpu. One thing I suspected on the new board that quit here fast was a bad bios eprom if not bad caps since one bios setting that worked on auto on that board requires a manual setting on the replacement.

The thing that might be happening there is a short to ground with the board touching something. If the cpu is good and not shorting itself then it's trying to pull power while the board is grounding out. I suspect that's why when going to fire up the old Socket A case here a working board was lifeless.

i think i know the problem, do you have a 4-pin molex connecter on ur motherboard that is suppose to give extra power to your graphics card, make sure that is not pluged in

- on my computer when i have that pluged in the fan spins a little and shuts off right away

hope this helps

but there are many m2 mobo im not sure if yours could have that feature

That would be the four wire 12v cpu feed there required on all new boards. SLI or Crossfire setups have their own extra power plug.

i tried using an regular am2 cpu rather than the am2+ cpu and it still wouldn't boot to bios. However the fan kept spinning. i even switched videos cards and it would load to bios. It's a defective board.

Thanks for the help though!

Sorry to hear that. But a good number of boards have been seeing this for some time now. Since you were able to get into the bios it's probably bad caps or a defect with the chipset. Rmaing a board is always "real fun". right!
