Hey,

So my video card just died, and I was wanting advice on getting a replacement. My computer is 4 years old, but still runs perfectly fine for the work i do with it(excel, basic PS, some gaming, etc). The video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT. I would like to spend about $150 at most. and I need a single slot card. I should also point out that I run TWO monitors, so I need 2 DVI ports on whatever video card I get. I would hope for, at minimum, equal performance to my 9800GT. Here is my computer if you need other specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...egory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3747348#N342

Thanks,
Chris

Are you using the same power supply that came with the computer?

Anything more powerful would need a beefier PSU. A GTX 460 is around $150, and a good performer. Or a GTS 450 would be around $100.

Those are 2 cards that I looked at already, but they are both dual slot cards, and unless I want to lose my wireless card, I need a single slot card. That's where I've been having trouble finding anything.

And I am using the same PSU.

If I already have a 460W PSU, why would I replace it with a 450W PSU? Maybe its a noob question, but I would still like to know.

Beacase, HP power supplys suck like any cheap power supply. This antec is truly outputting about 420 watts, the HP outputs about 350, if you are lucky, and any strain on it above 300 will probobly cause it to blow up and take out the system that you payed for with your hard earned cash.

Like byteninja said, cheaper power supplies aren't as efficient and could potentially blow your system. It may work for a while, but most people here would not recommend it.
