Dead Computer

I have a systerm I built about 8 months ago. The case I bought was nice but some of the reviews it got was that the power supply was not very good. Well I bought the case anyway along with a new power supply that I would use as a backup. Yesterday I push the start button and nothing. Immediately I pull out the brand new power supply an install turn on switch. I got power to the board. Push the start button and nothing. I pull the power switch of the mob headers and meter out the switch. Switch is good, power supply is brand new. The day before the lights went out for a few minutes and I have 3 computers. All of them were off and all connected to a good surge protector. Is it possible that just one was hit taking out the power supply which when checked was dead. when the power supply died could it have taken my mob with it.

That is entirely possible. I've seen it happen (and take out harddrives while at it). I'm not saying that this is the case here, but it is most certainly suspect.

I would have to agree, power surges and spikes do all sorts of funky things to electronics. I've even seen them skip over certain parts and hit others... It would be good to check into a new motherboard...

I already order another mob and case/w power supply. I am wondering if I should scrap this mob or hold on to it. I am thinking I might try it at a later time. Just to confirm my thinking. How can you check a motherboard other then a new build?

Don't scrap it yet...no. Make sure it is the problem first. If it is, then scrap it... Or better yet, take the caps off it and run leads from the cap to a good sized battery, one cap at a time. Leave it sit in the middle of the yard or something and stand well clear. Watch what happens... :evil grin:
