Dead computer?

My PC suddenly stopped working after a power blackout. I.e. The PC didn't turn on even after the power went back on. It is as if it is dead.

It is about 6 years old. What could be the problem? The monitor still turns on but obviously no pictures just a blank screen. Would could be the problem? Could the processor had been 'over clocked' so its life time was reached?

try unplugging the power cord from the back of the computer and leave it out fot 5 minutes and then plug it back in and try turning it on.

You people are right. It worked after I plugged it back after some time. Could someone explain the theory behind the problem I just had. What went wrong? Why does a blackout cause this relatively severe problem?

It's not really a severe problem...it's probably something along the lines of a power surge when the power came back on...charged teh capacitors in the PSU, and was messing up the PSU...after a little while, the capacitors will have discharged and will be fine to use. The reason I think this is because I used to have a similar problem with an old HP, and to get it to work again I'd have to unplug everything from the rear I/O port, press and hold the power button for 20-30 sec, then plug everything in again and fire 'er up. That always worked. Holding the power button would send the signal to the mobo which in turn sends the signal to the PSU to start the flow of juice, but since there isn't anything plugged into it to give it more, it just discharges what is still in the capacitors.

But then again, I could be totally wrong.
