Dead Motherboard?

well, yesterday night, I shut my pc down (hitting the power-button once), so I could turn it back on and go into the BIOS.
the pc shut down prefectly normal. however, when I tried turning it back on again, all it did was flashing the lights once (and the fans started moving a bit) for a fraction of a second, after that you see the power LED fade away again, and nothing happens.
after it did this, I can press the power button all I want, nothing at all happens.
When I turn the master switch off (or unplug it) wait till the lights on the motherboard turned off, and then try again to turn the pc on, I get the fraction of a second flash again.
I'm not at home yet (jsut started 'working' again for today, later on I want to try the powersupply in a other pc, see if that works.

As far as I can see, the PSU should be the problem. (usually when a motherboard died, at least the fans start running, right? and it should give an error then too I think, it doesn't do either tough. )

I'm quite puzzled with this, any suggestions would be appriciated.

Have you tried taking the mobo battery out for 30 seconds?

Or try different ram combinations..?

not yet, I did try resetting the BIOS, that didnt help tough. (the motherboard has a CMOC clear switch in the backplate. )
it was pretty late already when it happened, so havn't tried much yet.

I think I've had this problem with my old PC before, and I seem to remember I reseated some of the RAM sticks and closed the case and it worked first time. I have no idea what relevance they have to the PC not starting, but that's what worked for me a few months back.

Sadly... It wasnt the PSU :(:(:(:( looks like the motherboard is dead. I'm SO not happy with this. :|

On the bright side,.. i've only had the board for 11 months now.. so I still have warranty. already requested a RMA number from the shop, and i'm going to return it tomorrow.

damnit.. thats going to be a couple of looooong weeks without my pc. at least i've got my xbox still..

That lame! I hate this kind of thing, I've having problems myself at the moment, I know how you feel!

Good luck with it all, hope you get it sorted!

I still find it funny,.. I mean, i watched NCIS episodes and played Silent hunter 4 the whole evening. then i turned it off, it shut down propperly. and while it was closing windows, i remembered i had tosend an email. (and thought I could see if i could overclock it a bit more, since I had great temps, and all the voltages still within the green area. (not yellow or red))
so, when the fans stopped turning, I wanted to start it up again, and nothing happened. I really find that timing to be interesting, as if something needed to start the board up is broken or so... :|

Ok,.. requested the RMA number, turning it in tomorrow.

now... time for some wishfull thinking! Hope Asus fids whats wrong with my board and send me a replacement. only they dont have the Maximus Formula anymore, so they send a Rampage Formula. oohhhh,.. that would be soo cool. :P
(sadly,.. something like that is never going to happen :( bet in the end, I'll have to pay asus for checking my board and still get the broken one back. wanna bet? )

Oh well,... I'll have to wait and see I gues. Its gonna be at least 2 weeks without my pc tough I'm afraid. T_T how the hell I'm supposed to manage that?!

turned the motherboard in yesterday. They only took the motherboard, so i could take the box, the soundcard and all accesoires with me again. they said I'll most likely get a repaird motherboard back, so if they send one back, i'd have everything I need still for sure. (fair enough I think)

However, they also said it could take up to 2 weeks. :( oh well, at least I got time to tidy up my case a bit now.
