Dead Pixels

You can tell if you have a dead pixel by looking for pixels that remain black. Some monitors have a setting that will "test" for dead pixels. When looking for a new monitor pay attention to response time, contrast ratio, native resolution, connection(VGA or DVI), and brightness.

If you have already bought it and all, you could always change your whole background to different shades of colors, such as black, white, red, etc.. and see if there are any spots or anything that doesnt change, it'll usually mean that it's a dead pixel. There are also programs that could help you out on this process, but I think just changing your bg is easier. However, here is a link to one.

If you are looking at it in the store, it's really hard to tell because the one you get is usually not the one you were looking at.

Don't double post

If your monitor looks fine, then why do you care if you have dead pixels? :P

Basically it will just be a small black spot. A stuck pixel will be a spot of red, blue, or green.

edit: sorry i didn't see computerhakk's post

It seems like Im putting all this in wrong part. :P

Yeah and I just got my monitor today. It looks like there are no dead pixels. Thank you all.

I never thought a Widescreen LCD would look this good. :D

I got a stuck red one on my laptop, but I only ever notice it against an all white background. I think red is the best color to get stuck, if you had to choose one lol.

I've tried numerous "fixes" none have worked so far. One method is rubbing your screen gently with a cloth, trying to get it to come into contact again, turning it on and off etc. And I've also tried software that flashes random colors at the stuck pixel trying to bring it back to life, etc. I think alot of them are...pointless.

How did you guess? :P Once something goes it is gone. After seeing something like that day after day you know that it's worn in permanently. During that time any stuck pixels that were simply stuck would have refreshed themselves and disappeared.
