Deal or No Deal?

My computer died, the one I built in 2004. It's time for an upgrade. Went to my local computer store. He's pushing a Xeon X5365 dual core, 3Ghz computer for $400. The computer is a refurbished Xeon Quad with 1 dual CPU. The buss speed is 1333. It has 8 Mb cache. 650 watt power supply. DVD, R/W hard drive 100-240. It has a Quadro FX 3500 video card and OS Windows XP Pro.

I'm a casual gamer. Just need a PC to be able to play empire building games and RPGs. Have limited funds, so is it worth $400?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

No Deal. Fx quadro aren't meant for gaming, more of a business video card for CAD or something.

I wouldn't go for a second hand computer as you don't know whats been done to it, how long they have had it or how it has been used. If you were to buy a new computer you would get new parts, full warranty and you would be the only owner. So I would say save up a bit more money and build your own machine.

Time to build

Thanks for the help and saving me some money. I will build a new computer.

I play alot of city building games and RPG like Oblivion. Nothing online but e-mail and paying bills. with a DSL line

to start I was looking at the ASUS M4A87TD EVO.

As far as I can tell it will run everything from an AMD Athlon II to a AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz
I can start with the Athlon which will play all the games I have now and then I can upgrade when I need to.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681
MOBO: Asus M4A7Td EVO
RAM: DDR3 2MB one stick, running window xp
GPU: something like the Radeon HD 5770 1GB
HDD: 1 TB
PSU: 600W ?
Case: ?
Monitor: ?
OS not ready to give up my window XP home I bought it for my old commuter and a lot of my old games won’t
Work with window 7

So is this a good direction to start? Any help would be appreciated.
