Death to E-Machine!!!

Here's the scenario-

You see my current POS. What I would like to do is build an entirely new machine, however I'm not bold enough to start completely from scratch. In stead, I'm going to use the main components of this comp to help move me into a nicer setup (Drives, etc.) Eventually everything will be replaced, but my first step is to get a new mobo. I need recommendations for a sweet mobo between 100-200 for PSIE slot. However, before I get the mobo, I need to make a decision on the CPU. AMD or Intel is the question. I'm leaning AMD, especially for the gaming aspect. However, I am looking for a processor that will help my video and image editing hobby. Let me know. Thanks All!

Well, I thought of upgrading my PC too although I am satisfied right now, but I really don't like this craze about processors. I am an Engineer, although I don't work as an Engineer now, but I have some technical background.

What I actually don't like about the new processors, is over heating. When you buy an Intel 3.0 Ghz processor, you will have to invest heavily in cooling, get a case with nice fans as well as a high quality CPU fan and so on.

The best processor I can recommend as a start is the intel 2.4 or 2.66 Ghz with 1 MB L2 Cache. This processor can operate normally without over heating occuring if you use just 1 CPU fan of a good quality, I tried this. Higher processors shall be a disaster in their cooling req.

AMD all the way, they have more clocks per second making them faster in a sence.
Actually less clocks per second but I know what you mean. However you're only really gonna benifit from and AMD setup if you're doing memory controller intensive tasks ... otherwise Intel is a better choice

go with the pentium for video editing...

Yes but Amd's 64Bit procs doesn't completely suck at those tasks either, they've got SSE2 instructions nowadays.

AMD's SSE2 support is shoddy at best. Not that I'm saying they are overly bad at video tasks but Intel is better
