Decent Gaming PC for $1300.

Don't get 16 GB, really. For gaming, you won't be using over 8GB, trust me. And when they do make games that use over 8GB, you'll have to upgrade your entire system.

With a $1300 budget you could get a better video card than a 6950. You could get at least a 6970 or GTX 570 or if you stretch it you could budget in a GTX 580.

570 is better, 16gb won't be used for like 5 years, at least, psu is overkill and there are better brands, look for corsair/antec/xfx/pc power & cooling/silverstone/seasonic brands and around 600w, the corsair tx650 should be like the max psu used, can even use a quality 550 probably. and for the mobo i'd say to look at the gigabyte z68's, probably a ud3 or 4, but migh be a little over that 150 you wanted.

I have Gigabyte's Z68X-UD4-B3 and I couldn't be any happier with it, and it cost me $149.99 when I bought it, think it went back to $159.99.

there is nothing worth more than the 2500k, the 2600k will offer no performance boost in gaming, and that is a awesome case, although he could look for a slightly cheaper one.

I'm happy with my PSU at the moment, I know Corsair make higher quality PSU's but the TX-650 is $139 so I think for $99 the OCZ Modular 750w is a good buy.

I've changed the GPU to the Saphire 6970

Tell your friend if he wants 16GB to start with 8GB and see if he actually uses it all. He can always upgrade later and it keeps costs down for now.

Scout is a great case but it's showing its' age. I'd grab a 600T SE or a 400R/500R (when released) from Corsair, if umart has them.

PSU. The 700W is overkill for a single 570 and there's better power supplies out there.

I'm guessing you're using umart so you can buy and pick up locally?

Maybe swap the 2TB drive for an SSD and a 1TB HDD.

The Cooler Master Storm Scout is nice but is also designed for people who go to LAN parties. It has a large carrying handle in the top and is built light so it is easy to transport.

I went with the Cooler Master Storm Enforcer for myself since I won't be moving my PC from home and also because it has a little more room I do believe.

Thanks for that. I've changed the ram to G.Skill 8gb DDR3. How does it loook?

How does this look? Seasonic seems to make very high end PSU's.

Yes

Sounds good. I'm thinking of an OCZ Agility 3 60GB But i'll keep the 2TB hard drive for now. There will be a lot of stuff transferred to the computer.

Any recommendations or changes I should make? We're having a look at cases now.

EDIT: would it be worth paying an extra $120 for an i7 2600K?

Also do you have any recommendations for more modern looking cases than the scout?

Cheers.

The seasonic PSU will do good, but if you want 8GB or 18GB of RAM you'll want 1600MHz or higher stuff, if it's not too expensive.

The Seasonic PSU is much higher quality compared to the OCZ, as mentioned by linkin and other members. It's also quieter and can push closer to it's stated capacity. Coolermaster don't make great PSU's and for a build his price you'd want the best quality PSU possible.
The Kingston SSD isn't as higher quality as the OCZ, has horrible read/writes and random 4KB writes (most important) (source - http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/2871/kingston_ssdnow_v_series_64gb_ssd_upgrade_kit/index6.html)
Case looks awesome
The Barracuda 2TB is a better hard drive IMO.
MoBo looks good.
Ram looks good.

EDIT: Nevermind saw you changed the SSD.

I'd go with that. You might save a little money by getting some parts from pc case gear or another store/site, if they have them cheaper. But then you won't get all of it at once.

The person was getting us to build it for him, but his brother basically came and ruined OP, and my fun. We no longer get to update the list.
Also, our friend didn't want to wait, so yeah, that's why it was all from uMart, personally I don't like them.
