Decent USB hub

Can anyone suggest one? Main application will be wireless keyboard and wired mouse, I want to move my computer a fair distance away from my desk.

i use a d-link usb hub with 7 inputs. ive had it for a few years and it has never failed.. and thats why i bought a second one.

Just my 2cents, but anything that has a power input and is advertised as a USB hub will work. I have used the cheapest ones I could find and some more expensive ones. They are all the same, the expensive ones just look nice.

I am looking for one that has an AC adapter, since I'm going to want it a good distance from the computer and some of the devices I'll be using will draw power (I don't want to be limited to a short USB cable). Unfortunately, the D-Link hubs at Newegg don't seem to have power adapters.

I was looking at this one:

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16817394039

It's basically the cheapest one from a brand I recognize. This leads me to another question:

Are the USB cables (the one that goes between the hub and the computer) generally built into the device or do you use your own? Is there a certain type of cable used? I have a 10-ft cable for my printer that I was hoping to be able to use.

They don't use firewire to connect to the computer do they? I don't have any firewire ports.

get a good priced one not a cheap one!

My dad from MSY computers bought a hub and it powers both mine and his external hard drives... none of my hubs do so i would buy one like that..

if you would like i can get the model and the name of it... if you would like.... :)

I guess the type of cable I have is Type A to Type B, but unfortunately Newegg doesn't list which type the hubs I'm looking at use. It'd be nice to know in advance so I could order a new cable at the same time if I need one, but oh well. I'll just hope for the best.

Thanks for the tips all.

Don't external hard drives have their own power adapter? In any case, this is mainly for a keyboard and mouse.

That, and I placed an order for the one I linked to before I saw your reply. :o

I built may external hard drive... 160GB bought the case and it has a USB to USB and needs one port to power... so it works :D but that's ok...

Hope the one you ordered works well...
