Decrypting files

I encrypted some files in XP while my computer was on a domain. I exported the certificate for later use. Once I had Vista on the computer, I attempted to import the certificate, but now I can't decrypt the files. I even mimicked the domain and user, but still I can't decrypt them.

I used the encryption built into Windows. Is there some trick to it that I'm not familiar with? I'd like to be able to get them back. I only made a backup of a portion of them.

I really think that's recovering because you encrypted it and you want it back so...

I read the link, thank you.. But I'm still lost. I've recreated the domain since then, new server and everything. I don't have any of the former recovery agents. Now what? I can send the files over to the AD server and attempt decryption from there I guess... but that article doesn't give enough details as to how that's accomplished? Either that or I'm just brainddead tonight.

so your passkeys are gone? Do you have recovery agent access from either a local or domain admin account?
