dedicated physx card

this will be my first dedicated physx card attempted by me. i have a asus gtx480 and i want to get a gts450 as a physx card, and i was wondering how would someone go about it. i read a few online threads but nothing solid.so i was wondering what would be the easiest way to do so.i saw people say that i would need a spliter for my moniter, and ill have to uninstall my current drivers just to reinstall?any advice will be much appreciated or a link to a good review about setting up a physx card. specs are in signature.

i am not entirely sure but i do believe you need to uninstall the drivers. don't quote me though :P

as far as connections, you shouldn't need an sli bridge at all. i believe with nvidia there is an option in the control panel. so just uninstall your drivers, power down, put in the card, boot, install drivers, and find the option in the control panel.
 
Since this thread is open can someone explain what a physx card is and what it is for, and what it's benefits are? Woo, thanks.
 
it is just an nvidia card capable of doing physx (i believe ALL cards after and including the 8800gt can do physx). having a dedicated one just allows the main card to perform at max potential because it doesn't have to do the physx stuff as well (that is where the dedicated card comes in).
 
when you say physx stuff....is that literally talking about physics? such as in games. Or is it something else?
 
there are some games that have extra "eye-candy" such as batman arkham asylum, while others will have a different kind of physx where the card doing the physx will offload the cpu, allowing it to do other things faster. so i guess yeah it does involve the "physics" of the game.
 
You can do this with an ATI card and a Physx capable Nvidia card right? I saw a couple rigs like that I thought.
 
Hey, I wouldn't really spend your money on a card like that for PhysX. Get something single slot, so you have more space in the case. Maybe like a GT 240?
