Default browser choice..

What is the purpose of making a specific browser the default?

For example. I have Net7, IE and Firefox. I stopped using Net and IE and use FF for all my internet use now.

What is the benefit of making FF my default browser? Right now none of the browsers are default. Does it matter?

Scott

P.S

And yes I know that Windows uses IE for the auto-Update, but I don't use this feature that much.

It means that if you ever need to access something on the web, that browser will launch.

Say you open up an email and click on a URL in the message. Your default browser will open up that webpage.

If I were you, I'd make FF my default. I do not allow my computer to open up IE. Just because I dislike everything about it.

Browser..

Ok. That's what I thought.

I just made FF the default, but links in emails still open in Netscape and not FF. I'm not sure how to turn off the default setting for Netscape...

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you set your specific browser the default it will helps to find the desktop toolbar quite handy for accessing shortcuts to websites as well as files and folders on the computer), but just wish it didn't behave that way!

Thunderbird..

OK. I gave it some thought and here's an idea.

What I could do is download and use Thunderbird (Since it is the same as Netscape Mail) then try and remove Netscape.

I think this might work better in the long run than trying to deal with program defaults in Netscape Mail.

Right?

IE sucks never never ever use it

Yeah, especially bad for developers and anyone else who wants a site to look good. What's up with IE and CSS stylesheets!?

Tip: If something is opening with the wrong app, go find a file of the specific type(that is wrongly opening) and right-click it. You will see "Opens with: <app name>" and then click "Change" and select the app you wish to open it with.

You only need one browser and at this time FF seems to be the favorite. Get rid of Nescape and any other one you have except IE. Good ole Microsoft won't let you delete that one.. Why clutter up your pc with something you don't use or need.

Use Windows Auto-Update because you need your critical security updates. As a matter of fact today is Microsoft Patch Tuesday (every second Tuesday of the Month) so tonight go to the Windows Update site and get your security patches!

Also don't forget to update Firefox with it's security updates too. Nothing is bullet proof left unpatched.
