defrag question

Hello all
well, while I was trying to defragment my Hard disk yesterday, Its stays on 10% analyzing for a long time, and so I will not be able to analyze my disk?
So, what do u think the reasons of this?

Let it run over night. Sometimes it takes a long time, especially if you have not done it in ages.

try booting in safe mode and performing the defrag... i know this used to be a problem on windows 9x based systems but i dont know if the same holds true for windows xp systems (i'm assuming you're using XP here)
if you run it in safe mode you shouldn't get any other programs interfering with the defrag progress

Yeah, many programs can interfere with the defrag process, sometimes even the screensaver. Either run it in Safe Mode, as Hairy_Lee has suggested, or make sure all your programs (anti-virus, etc...) are turned off.

Well I am using XP, and there are no other process running even the screen saver.
but I will try to run it in safe mode

Yes

It's a professional solution for defragmenting. It does it faster from personal experience and with greater effect supposedly.
