defrag software for slow pc

Hi,

what is the best defragmentation software for a slow pc with cpu speed 300Mhz? I use diskeeper on my fast pc, but it seems mighty slow on there. does anybody know any software which runs fast even on a slow pc? or anybody use network defrag?
 
honestly i have tried a lot of them on an older slower computer and i must say the best one i have seen is the one that comes with windows it does a good enough job for an older slower computer but the one i'm most partial to is diskkeeper too and the reason it tends to slow the computer down is becuase it does a very through search as you know if you use it it takes a little longer but i tend to just start it and leave it over night to do its thing on my older computers
 
I've got to agree with codeman0013 about time. I don't get why people are so concerned about how long things take, whether it's this or virus scanning. Most pcs are doing nothing for 16 hours a day. If an app does a good job but is slow it's minor planning not to run it when you are sat at the pc. Use the various timing tools that are available.

I use PerfectDisk and that is a lot slower if you use the recommended Smart Defrag option.

Older pcs can also suffer from lack of hdd space which will slow defragging down.

IMO, defrag is a tool M$ threw into Windows to give some people false hope when their computer is getting slow. Chances are, that while a defrag would clean everything up, your computer will still go very slow, delete programs, make sure your computer is malware free (spyware, adware, etc.) and maybe do a ram upgrade...

...if your trying to make your computer faster that is...
 
I have to disagree with dismissal of benefits of defragging. It's probably more important on old pcs since having the hdd head jumping around can affect things like burning files to cd. Contiguous files are quicker to read and far easier to recover if accidentally deleted. Recording video into clear space is less likely to drop frames than if the head is writing a few bits here and a few bits there.

Sure, it's only one factor affecting performance.
