Defrag

Hi Everyone
I have a question about defraging. I recently changed my memory up to 200GB. I have tried to defrag my PC but I get an error message saying that I do not have enough memory available???
I must be doing something wrong, or maybe something I have overlooked.
Please help
john

The 200GB relates to your hard drive, not your memory. this is what your memory looks like. If you press the 'Windows' key and the 'Pause Break' key together, you can find out how much memory (RAM) you have. How much do you have?

No, memory is the correct term for both hard drives and ram.

I have 192mb!!!!
I have bought a 512 stick and this should be arriving any day now.

John

When the stick arrives should I just install it and try defrag then?

Well, you could i guess, but that would change anything. When it refers to your memory, its talking about your hard drive. How full is that 200Gb hard drive anyways?

Hi Guys
Have just installed a 512 mb ram...I now have 640mb.
The Hard drive is 111Gb of which 92GB is unused.

I tried to defrag again and I got the message that I do not have enough memory.

Any ideas?????

What format is that hard drive in? When you go to defrag, it tells you under the File System heading.

jpb1958, Sometimes you need service pack 2 installed to get 200GB memory support.. Do you have windowsXP with service pack 2 installed? What are the rest of your system specs?

Hi Peeps
I bought my machine in 2000, so is quite old now (ancient?). I have upgraded a few times but cant remember it all. Where would I look to see?
Please remember.....I'm not very computer literate :D
John

To see if you have service pack 2 installed, right click my computer, select properties and on the general tab it should say the build of your operating system and any service packs installed.. below that it will also tell you how much ram you have and what your processor is and the speed of it.
