Degrading Value of Used Computers

This is a bit of a semi-silly question, BUT I am wondering how much should one take off of a computer that has already been built/used. Case in point:

Person is selling Computer A
Computer A is still fairly good, spec wise
Computer A, when originally bought, was $1200
Computer A is 1 year old, and would now be created brand new at $1000
How much should computer A be bought for?

Thank you.

if you are the present owner of computer a, the minimum u sell it for is $800.
if you are purchasing computer a, the maximum u pay is $750.
:)

Depends more one the components than the price of it new. If you can build it new for $1000, then don't expect to get/pay $700 for it at a year old.

Assuming of coarse that it was a quad core i5 with around a 6870 or the like. If it were a dual core i3 with say a 6950/6970, you will likely not net over 650.

The main reason I am asking about this is that I have seen a trend on Craigslist and I want to exploit it. Long story short, people put 'gaming' computers on there and highball it, knowing that someone will probably only shoot it down 1-200 dollars. However, I have noticed on these that if you upgrade 1 thing normally (usually either the processor or video card) that you could jump the price up pretty high. Here is how I kind of figure how to degrade the price of the computer.

Assume the intial price = 100%

If computer A is < year old = 15-20%
If computer A is >= 1 year but < 2 years = 30%
If computer A is >= 2 years + = 40-65%

I know it sounds stupid, but I am normally good with numbers, so I am wondering if my logic is flawed.

Thanks for your help. It's just an interesting concept. Oh, by the way, this formula is mainly for buying...not selling. Selling I would probably push it pretty high.

The logic is flawed. most of the time price is purely based on age. a P4EE would still only fetch $100. A C2Q build still only fetches about $250. a i7 build with average graphics still only fetches ~$500.

You also have to take into account, that most people on craigslist don't know their arse from a hole in the ground about computers. And the ones that do, price theor computers well above the original price ususally.
