Hello CF.

From September 28th I will be off to Bournemouth University to do Games Technology course, therefore I am looking for a desktop PC for about £1600 or $2500 for 3D modelling (rendering) and animation.

I will also use it for gaming, so I'd need a decent GPU to do both things.

It needs to have at least 8gb of RAM.

Please post the whole PC including HDDs, SSDs, keyboard, mouse, case (a cool and a pretty small case to show off, not a boring and simple one) and at least one (or two if budget allows) 22" monitor/TV(s).

Thanks in advance.
A.

$2500 will definitely allow a great computer with everything you need, including the two monitors.

Pick up a couple of these monitors (75Hz) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005340 for $300 total.

CPU $330- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116501

RAM $85- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231429

PSU $175- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011

Motherboard $240- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821

Case (I don't know about you, but I feel it's simple yet flashy) $80- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156063

GPU $500- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130768

Mouse $50- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...rue&Keywords=(keywords)&Page=1#scrollFullInfo

Keyboard (with backlit keys) $140- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823114026

DVD/Bluray drive $55- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106374

HDD $200- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148506

(Assuming you are a Windows guy) Windows 7 $189- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116997

If my math is right, that comes down to $2,445. I'm not sure about shipping, but if you don't want to run this close into your budget anyway, you could get this hard drive instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 considering you might not ever need to use 2TB :p. You could also just get a more standard keyboard (that comes with a mouse) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126097 or a bit cheaper CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070. This setup would handle really anything you throw at it, but it is pretty spendy, and it is your computer. If there's anything you are wondering or are concerned about, please tell;).

EDIT: Also consider that the Razer keyboard I linked isn't compatible with Windows 8, but if you're playing games, I doubt you'd get that anyway:p.

I have Windows 7 so I dont need that.
As far as I know in this case, Quadro 4000 is much better than the 680 you posted as the drivers are made more for software than gaming. What about SSD for faster performance? And dont really like the case, looks cheap :D

That may be true, but you won't do much gaming on the Quadro cards. Those are brilliant for rendering (and there's already software that can use up all those cores), but as far as gaming goes, they are next to useless. GTX 680 will give you almost same level of rendering performance, cheaper, and massive gaming performance too.

Trust me, GTX 680 will NOT give me almost same level of rendering performance as the drivers are made for gaming, not for software like 3Ds Max or Blender. And I want a PC MOSTLY for work but be able to run new games aswell. And on the Quadro 4000 I will be able to do gaming according to many tests.

Well, ok, I can agree to the first statement, if you run Maya or 3DMax or Blender. I will have to disagree on the gaming front. Maybe, if you lower the details and game only on one screen, and even then not all games will run properly. I do have the Quadro card you are mentioning in my work rig, but could never get the gaming performance of the GTX 560 out of it. But, it's just me :)

But I'm not going uni to play games, I'm going there to work and gaming will be just in my spare time, I'm bringing my PS3 with me but there are games that I like to play on a PC more than PS3. And I am not talking about playing Crysis 2 in 1900x1280 but games like Skyrim, FIFA just to kill time.

So could someone else post me alternative rig?

Ok, then it should be fine. Go for Quadro. You will get better support as well, since it's not technically speaking consumer-end product.

If gaming isn't as much of a priority as I thought, you should get the quadro, but it will run you over $2,500. That's not a problem if you have some extra, of course, since you said "around" $2,500. If you don't want to go hdd and want ssd, here's a 240gb for $175. Corsair is a good brand http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233268 . The case is kind of cheap, (maybe a little too simple) but I'm not quite sure what you want :p. You can find some good ones, but most of them are larger cases.

Doesnt matter, I'll just copy the names and buy it on ebay. But I cannot find the monitor on ebay.co.uk - any alternative?

Don't buy on eBay. Buy on Novatech, Aria, Dabs or Overclockers. I live in the UK and I buy from Novatech personally. They have great support and have been helpful whenever I've needed them.

Only don't buy from Overclockers, they are not as they used to be. I used to order a lot from them with not one problem. Then I had a break, but made a large order recently. Not only they've never sent it, they were nonchalant and downright rude on their phone line too. I've read some reviews, and it seems they went really down with the quality of the service and support. I would really stay away.

On the side note, you do have Aria, Dabs, Scan, Novatech, Ebuyer, all of them tested and very good indeed.

I have been using eBay and only eBay, no eBuyer, Amazons etc. So was my father for the past 12 years and there was no disappointment, therefore I will buy my products there probably. And it comes out much cheaper as well.

There is no point getting this monitor for 1 reason:
It costs 108 pounds and the delivery is 48 pounds... so I can get something like Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23" on eBay for the same price.

I don't use pounds as my currency, so my estimate of how much it was in dollars was quite a bit off- plus I didn't see the shipping; the uk eBay layout is different from the US's. Are you going to get two of those monitors?

Edit: Sorry for excuses =P
