Delete files permanently

Hey guys,

Wonder if anyone knows of some freeware software that can permanently delete selected files/folders?..rather than just sending them to the recycle bin because i think they don't really get deleted....just get made invisible so they dont show up anymore,But still actualy take up some disk space.

Reason i want to delete them permanently is so they are no longer using up precious space on my SSD. :P

Tks

Nev, not sure I completely agree on what you are saying. When a file is deleted from the "Recycle Bin" or by bypassing it, it is my understanding that although the file is recoverable it's marked as deleted and the space it occupied is marked as 'reusable', so in effect you have regained the space it occupied on the hard disk.
These 'remnants' of the files don't take space, It's available space.

Well im not sure myself mate,Thats just what i heard so i assumed it was right as i have actualy deleted some things in the recycle bin before only for them to show up again when i searched for them at a later date...this was back when i was using Xp though.

I found a freeware app called "Eraser" which claims to delete them for good,Il give it a try anyway :)

You know CCleaner will do it also, In options / settings make sure "wipe MFT free space" is ticked. :good:
All pointers to deleted files will be zapped.

i am pretty sure tft is right. the files will be over-writable (not really a word :P and as long as they aren't overwritten you can access them via a special tool in ubuntu ;)). but they aren't counted as USED space in windows
EDIT: or in ubuntu.

Well,
You don't need to search a software to Delete files permanently.
You can delete a file by pressing shift+Del key together. :D

We've moved on from using a simple shortcut to bypass the Recycle bin.

The MFT marker has made that space available for other files, we're talking of whether there is any benefit in removing the marker and overwriting the old file with zero's.

I can only tell ya how i do it.

uninstall the program then goto the program files and make sure the directory is deleted.

goto start run '%appdata%' and delete all occurrences of it.

another proggy i use is regseeker (freeware) to get rid of all orphans. ive used for about 8 yrs now. always considered it safe. though i have had problems with windows 7 64 bit.

I use total commander and always go with "shift F8". I'm satisfied with that but I'm sure there's an application out there that erases everything completely.

And of course, if you uninstall a program, always use a registry cleaner program and delete every reference of it.
