Deleted files???

Hello. I have an XP home desktop. I had six .wps files containing data on the hard drive. Tonight, when I went to look for them, there are only 2 of the 6 files on the drive. I have no idea what happened to the other files. I did a search and it came up empty. Is there any way to search for and recover these files if they were somehow deleted? This is "big" to me. Thx

there are many programs for recovery of data, but it seems like a virus to me...
