Today when i turned on my computer all of my music and pictures were deleted. They were stored on my desktop on different folders. The music and pics that were not on my desktop were still there. I tried to do a system restore and returned everything to normal except my pics and music are still gone only the folders remain. Also all of my personal settings were changed back to default. It was if i was using my computer for the first time. Can anyone help me?

Is the "clean desktop every 30 days" option enabled? What that does is cleanup unused items off of the desktop and holds them in a new temporary folder. This is enabled by default with XP. If that happened you should see a new folder sitting on the desktop. Performing a system restoration may have hidden that now from view. In the Documents and Settings directory look under your user name and browse through folders there to see if you find them. You can also use Windows Media Player to search the hard drive for all media. If they are still on the drive WMP will give the location.

are you sure they havn't been moved by accident. File will not just disappear on there own. Do a search for them.

Oh and check in the recycle bin :)

Those things came to mind here about having more then one user account or an accidental deletion where the recycle bin is a place to look. The idea of using WMP to search for media will scan the entire drive on it's own. If those files were in a playable format they will appear in the WMP library. You would then now if they were intact and can copy them to a folder of choice.
