Deleting file in Downloads

There's no default downloads directory in XP that I can recall. What's the specific location? Though it should be fine seeing as these were probably all installers.

In Widows Explorer, under My Documents. Are all these files used for installing only and if I loose a program can I go to My Downloads and re-install from this? These installers are not used in the program itself...so I should not loose anything by deleting.... Is this correct?

You are either using vista or windows 7 correct? That would the default directory when downloading anything. If you no longer need those files then delete them. They are not imperative to the operation of your machine, they are just the aps/games you downloaded from the net.

The downloads folder is a convenient place to receive files. It's best to move files somewhere else or delete them to avoid clutter.

If you have installation files for programs it's usually worth keeping them in another dedicated folder. You may want to re-install at some point or roll back a later update to an earlier version. Not all software has earlier versions available.

When you are trying to re-install or repair some programs it may ask where it can find the original installation package. You will know where.

Can I save them in another drive.
You can stick them wherever you want!

The most useful method is to have a folder (on any drive) and always run the installation packages from that folder. Some software, when you try to repair, will remember the location of the original package and go to there first. If the files are somewhere else you can re-direct, if you can remember where you stuck them! I call my folder "Shareware" but you can use any name you like "InstallPackages" or whatever. I usually backup to dvd as well but that's not essential.
