Deleting pagefile.sys

How do I unlock file protection in order to delete pagefile.sys? I just installed 2Gb DDR into an older computer and want to erase pagefile.sys in order to free up enough drive space on the xp partition (there is less than 3% available) to defrag the drive. The pagefile itself is already disabled, and has made the computer much faster.I have already changed the registry value for deleting pagefile.sys: :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE..SOFTWARE..Microsoft..Windows NT..CurrentVersion..SeCEdit..Reg Values..MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Session Manager/Memory Management/ClearPageFileAtShutdown, but it didn't work because the file is locked. It's taking up 2.5 gb of an 8gb partition. I should already know how to do this but it's not a problem I've come across before.

have you tried unlocker ?
have you tried terminating explorer.exe in task manager and browse to the file and delete it in safe mode ?

always work for me

after choosing "no page file" you must press the "set" button. simply pressing ok will not allow you to delete the pagefile.sys
