Deleting Windows Assembly Folder

Hi,

I have a second hard drive (not the primary hard drive) in my new computer, which I transferred from my old dead computer.

It has my old copy of Vista on it as well as loads of personal files, so I don't want to format it. I have managed to delete all the old files from the Windows Folder, apart from the D:\Windows\assembly files/folder it says they can't be deleted due to other applications needing them.

How can I delete them?

Boot to a linux CD like Parted Magic and delete the files through there instead.

Download an ISO of Ubuntu or Linux Mint (both are free), burn the ISO to a CD, then boot off the CD and don't install the OS - run it live from the CD, and then remove the files.

You need to make sure you download a Live CD ISO and you may actually need a DVD if the ISOs are over 750Mb.

I can't see an option for Live CD, unless I am being blind.

All Ubuntu ISOs should have the live CD feature. Just download the ISO there - do you need 32-bit or 64-bit?

I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

use the 32 bit iso, it is far more stable. And all ubuntu disks will run live mode, as will Mint.

Boot to Linux Ubuntu CD-ROM disk,locate the folder and delete it.
