I did a fresh load of Vista on my laptop, I am trying to delete windows old where it has stuff I dont need. When I right click to delete it, it will start then a window pops up that says you need permission and the only button it gives me is cancel. Any ideas? Thanks.

You should redo your installation and do a fresh install. It looks like you did a parallel installation alongside the old install. If you need any data, back it up before doing the fresh install. In doing the fresh install you need to delete the existing partitions and then recreate them and then format and install.

How do I do a fresh install? I did it from the boot setup, but it doesnt give me the option of doing a fresh install it just says its going to save everything in a folder called windows old. Any help is appreciated.

This was a fresh install, over the old one. There's no such thing as
a "parallel" install.

Vista creates that "backup" folder so you can save your documents.

To the OP:

Get everything you need out of that folder, then boot into Safe Mode.

You should have no problem deleting the Windows.Old folder after that.

Exactly

On win 7 you can delete that folder through the cleanup utility. Im not running Vista so I cant remember if you can do it with vista. But, you Rightclick your C drive and click properties. Click Disk Cleanup. There should be a box to check that Says "Windows old".

I know this may sound stupid but how do I get into safe mode? The only time I have seen the option of going into safe mode is when my computer crashes and it will ask when I reboot whether I want to start regular or safe mode.
