I saw that dell has 27/30 inch monitors on special until 5-30. Has anyone had any experience with them? I am considering getting a desktop with a huge monitor. Do you think the 30 incher is worth the $200 or $250 extra cost as compared to the 27?

I will use it for general computing use and photography.

Well it's three inches... I am changing from 19inch (CRT) to 22 inch (TFT) Widescreen, which is quite a big difference. Though I wouldn't pay 200 dollars more... You could get a nice 20 inch screen for 200 dollars >.<

27inch should do just fine, and the resolution on a 27 inch (a good one) is 2560*1600 or perhaps even 2560*2048 (which is HUGE). You're photo's will appear fullscreen almost (assuming you take 1920*1200 pictures or perhaps 1920*1600).

To me the extra 3 inches is not worth money. Just get the smaller one and get a fresnel lense. Fresnel lenses are basically a big magnifying glass. They are mounted in front of your monitor and have to be cased in so no light gets in. They work great but, the down side is they are not visually appealing.
