Dell 8100 problems

Pentium 4 1.8GHz,128mb RD ram, NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX/MX 400, 40GB Hard Drive
In 2001 when the pentium 4 was new i decided to buy a 8100. It worked well until recently it started acting up. last month i posted about updating windows from ME to XP but this grinded to a halt due to the price of rd ram being over £110 for 128mb. Just a few days after posting last it acted up again. It would not start at all so i gave the hard drive to PC world and they "attempted" to rebuild my windows installation. Now after this its doing stupid things like asking for network passwords, pausing on boot for around 30 seconds and taking an excess of 5 mins to load windows. Im not wishing to get a new pc as this one is GREAT when it works that is but is there anything that can be done for it? Please help asap oh p.s it reboots constantly aswell

who in their right mind would pay THAT MUCH for only 128mb.
that is a whole paycheck for me...

is your computer still at pc-world?

did you try reformating your hdd and then installing the o/s and everything else?

Its back now and i wish i never took it there now. they charged me £75 just to format a drive! even i could have done that i thought they would do more! They didnt even clean out the dust from the case so i had to do that! Its still running badly. Would xp run on 128mb ram?

yes xp will run on 128 mb of ram but it will be slow. i would suggest upgrading to 256 or 512 mb of ram or just get a new computer from dell.
