Dell computers and networking??

Hello, My new flatmate has a newish dell computer (Q6700, 4gbRam, 8600GT etc) with Vista.

Now he pluged into our network and has the internet fine etc, he can also see and roam/copy from etc in our other computers via network.

However when we try to access him from our computers my Vista freezes for a short while then comes up with like an unknown error type message. Ive done all the usual networking tricks like firewalls, static ip's, sharing drives and setting up his vista to accept guest via network. But nothing works....

My question is.. Does Dell include some sort of network "sercruity" type thing that is annoying??? Or is there anything else it could be??

Cheers

I know of nothing Dell loads to protect their computers like that... Besides their basic software (Norton Internet Securities or something like that) I don't believe there's anything else. I could skim over my Dell laptop sometime, but as far as I know, it's quite clean without anything running out of the ordinary.

Vista can be a real pain to network. I'm still having some difficulties getting everything to work exactly right on my dad's PC. I can get the public folders shared without a problem, but for some reason I still can't get custom folders shared.

aaahhh... yeah i see the problem.... well i know i have had problems with my grandmothers. Now... it soon fixed it self.... so i'm not sure what happened.......

But make sure that your go through the entire network because then it doesn't have to search the network for it.
