Hey i have a quick question. If you were to choose between these 2 laptops which one would you prefer? I just recently purchased the Samsung but i'm having second thoughts. I feel that the D630 is very similar to the NP300 in specs except I feel that the Samsung screen is a bit nicer. The D630 has extremely long battery life especially with the optical drive battery here are the specs":
Samsung NP300:::
Type General Purpose, Media, Value, Desktop Replacement
Processor Name Intel Core Pentium Dual Core (not i3)
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor Speed 15.6 GHz
RAM 4 GB
Weight 4.9 lb
Screen Size 15.6 inches
Screen Size Type Widescreen
Native Resolution 1366 x 768
Graphics Card Intel HD Graphics 3000
Graphics Memory 64
Storage Capacity (as Tested) 640 GB
Rotation Speed 5400 rpm
Networking Options 802.11n

Dell D630:
2.2GHz Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo Dual core processor
2gb of ddr2 memory
80gig Hard drive
CDRW/DVD Combo Drive
Intel 965 Express
Win 7 Professional 64bit

i feel like the D630 has a better build quality. and is much more sturdy

The Latitude D630 is a nice laptop. I use one daily, and I would not use anything else. Though you need to watch which ones you buy to have a good one for todays uses. The GMA (965GM chipset) equipped models are not going to be that great now, as it is a very limited GPU/IPU. The NVS135m equipped models will be what you want. They are about the same chip as a 8400m GT and have acceptable performance, I would think right above Intel HD, but unsure. The media bay battery is nice, but most of the time I just plain remove the media bay all together and have the max processor state @ 45% single core to save power and weight. I get ~3.5 hours with everything on low, multi core disabled, 800 MHz mode forced through Ubuntu, with no media bay device and all ports but Wireless and USB disabled in the BIOS. This is about as good as it gets on a 6 cell battery, and does well for school work, though I have to push it back to max for Drafting class, but that is to be expected.
Also, look for the 1440*900 screen. It is high quality and one of the finest laptop screens that I have used. The 1280 resolution will seem subpar on a laptop this size.
Another thing to note is that these laptops are built like tanks. I know mine gets tossed around and battered all day in a backpack, has been dropped many times for ~3-4 feet on a hard tile floor and has recieved little damage other than a few scraps and scratches, and the LCD hinges are a little loose. Also not for upgrade purposes that the WWAN, WLAN, bluetooth, and primary DIMM are located beneath the keyboard, but are still easily accessable.

you may also be interested in the Dell Precision M90 laptops. They are the same chassis, but have MXM dedicated graphics cards and higher performing processors, but they are made to fill a different role, and will be slightly more expensive. If I were to buy again, I would go for the M90 over the D630 in a heart beat.

I can not comment on the samgsung, but I will guarantee that if you are worried about build quality and want a beast of a machine, go for the Latitude or Precision. You will not regret it.

Side note, the Pentium is built off the i3 chip. The differences being that it has no Graphics turbo mode, are slower clocked, and I think have 1 or 2 less instruction sets (but don't quote me on that one). It will perform at or above the CPU of the dell if I am guessing right, but the dell will be a better computer.

I do not have a problem with it. i frequently disable the trackpad (the one below the keyboard) because it is just annoying to have the cursor shoot across the screen when I am typing.

The keyboard seems to be quality, and not too much give to it.

I always vote commercial grade Latitude and Precision all the time. I've owned a D600 and currently own an E6500, but sell the D531, D620, D630, and other Latitude/Precision models at work, so I am 100% familiar with them all.

The upside is service on Dell's like these is a breeze. No nightmare screws or wires, and the service manuals are all available on Dell's website.

Is this laptop you have?

If is this one then it is I3 processor. I think Intel hd3000 come with i3-to i7 processors sandy bridge. if I am wrong, please correct me.

The Samsung have newer parts and the old dell he listed only have 2gb ddr2 ram and 80gb hard drive even through it come with optical drive.

I would choose the samsung over the dell for the newer parts and more ram. laptop is depend on how you care it.
Cheers.

Also the Samsung runs much cooler and quieter...and yes the samsung has DDR3 memory...and the D630 has the 965 chipset, im pretty sure..

there were 2 kinds of the 965 chipset. the 965PM has no graphics while the 965GM has intel GMA integrated on it.

The Samsung is newer technology, but it will rely more on what you need. Unless you are using programs that are heavy threaded, then the D630 will be your better bet.
