Dell Dimension 2350 DVD ROM?

I got a Lite-On DVD burner from Wal-Mart and I couldn't seem to get it going. It would know it's there but wouldn't burn or reconize theres a disc in it. Is it DOA? Or what? I set the jumpers in every possible way. I lost the stupid receipt so I can't return it. It's an IDE drive. So do you think if the old Dell computers will be able to handle DVD Burners or DVD-ROMs?

Ok, well I'll just pick up a nother one and If it is something in my computer I will just return it.
