Dell Dimension 4550

have an older Dell Dimension 4550 (533MHz FSB) Desktop/PC .

And the most its suppose to be able to hold is 1GB.

So does that mean that I can absolutely not upgrade it to 2GB's or more? I was looking into buying ram and then I found that out.

So does it only support 1GB or can I do something besides get a new motherboard that supports 2GBs?

And will this ram work in the Dimension 4550?
Corsair XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 184-Pin DDR 400
Model# TWINX2048-3200C2PT

Thanks guys for any help.

Dell says your desktop has 2 slots that support up to 512MB each. Getting a 1GB DIMM may work but on a machine that old I don't think it's worth it.

And I found a website that told which ram would work with 2GBs that one wasnt listed but I thought maybe someone knew.

Thanks though.

The MCH directly supports one channel of DDR200/266 memory. The memory interface supports
Double Data Rate (DDR) devices with densities of 64-Mb, 128-Mb, 256-Mb, and 512-Mb
technology. The memory interface also supports variable page sizes of 2 KB, 4 KB, 8 KB, and
16 KB. Page size is individually selected for every row and a maximum of eight pages per DIMM
may be opened simultaneously.
The MCH supports a maximum of two, double-sided DIMMs (four rows populated) with
unbuffered DDR200/266 (with or without ECC) Note that in mixed mode, populating ECC and
Non-ECC memories simultaneously is not supported.

I'm going to suggest that means the Corsair RAM will not work ;)
