I was just wondering what the difference between the white and the black ram sockets are? I have got two dell desktops and both of them came with ram in the white sockets is there a reason for this?

Also I am not sure if the word socket is right. I mean the place that the ram is inserted.

You have 2 channels of memory slots so you can use dual channel memory which runs faster than memory in single channel.

To run them in dual channel like he is talking about, you will need to keep them in matching color slots. (Both white or both black.)

You can use all 4 slots at the same time. We are just saying that if you want the best performance from the memory and you only have 2 sticks then you need to have them in either the white or black slots. Don't put 1 stick in the white and 1 stick in the black.
