DELL Dimensions 2400 Memory stick??

Good day. In the market to purchase memory for my wifes Dell Dimensions 2400 Desktop computer. She just uses it for email, surfing the web, and as a word processor. Currently only has 256mb DDR333 184 pin memory(PC2700). Would like to boost it up to its maximum of 1GB. It only has two slots for memory.

My question is: is it better to purchase 2 sticks of 512mb memory, OR 1 stick of 1GB memory? And please reccomend any good online stores, and memory brand types to go with, or stay away from? Many Thanks, Scott

In those situations where you only have two slots, I like to go with a 2X512 combination. That way if one of the sticks goes bad, I still have a backup until I can secure a replacement. Additionally, if the motherboard supports it, they will run in dual channel and that gives you more bandwidth or more speed plus the benefit of smoother operation.

As far as memory goes and since this is for basic daily operations, I would use corsair select. I have it in all of my Dell desktops and it works great. The price is nice too. Newegg.com carries it and here's a link.

To piggyback off of that it is also cheaper to go with 2x512mb instead of 1gb. ;)

Why buy 1gb stick when you have two slots and your max is 1gb on the machine? ;)
