Dell dimenson 5150 upgrade questions

You can upgrade the CPU to any pentium 4 5xxx or 6xxx series CPUs.

Your RAM link is not working for me. You can upgrade to 4GB. Do you currently have two sticks of 1GB in it or 4 sticks of 512mb? May require opening your computer.

If 2 sticks of 1GB, you can just buy a set of 1GB sticks, making the total 4GB. Download Speccy and post what mhz your RAM is running at.

It can support 400mhz or 533mhz RAM.

You can upgrade your graphics card to basically anything. But we need to know what make and model of power supply you have. Once again, open up your computer.

So now you know what you can do, I'll give my opinion on what you should upgrade to.

I wouldn't touch your CPU. Going up to any other P4 won't give you much benefit. You pretty much have a weak, old CPU. BUT its fine for olderish games.

I would definitely upgrade your RAM to 4GB. It'll help.

For your graphics card, I'd go as high as a 6770 or 6790. Anything more than that, your CPU would be limiting the card.

But we need to know what kind of power supply you have so you aren't running underpowered.

How do i check what power supply im using?
I amusing Two 1 GIG RAM sticks. (2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 265MHz (4-4-4-12)
Another question is, Can i just get a new motherboard and put all these components onto it? would that work?

Open up your computer. Its the box that has all the wires coming out of it. There should be a label with some technical information on it. While you have it open, double check that you have two sticks of RAM

You are running 533mhz RAM. I'd recommend this set:

I wouldn't see the point in a new motherboard, especially for this old of a system. It can support a good amount of RAM and any video card. Its just that its CPU is slow. Changing the motherboard wouldn't get you better fps in games. Alternatively, you could ditch the CPU, motherboard, and RAM and upgrade all that. But at that point, you might as well build a new one from scratch.

don't buy value ram...
I think it's value ram (15$)

if you go to desktop ram --> DDR3
I would choose one of the 3 last ones.
These are better: This one and this one

you're sure that this site is trusted?

Please read the thread before posting.
He is using a P4 and a mb that doesn't use DDR3.

First off, what kind of games are you wanting to play? Your cpu is old and won't be able to play any demanding games.

Im playing Dota 2 and after a 1 or 2 games it becomes EXTREMELY laggy and almost unplayable when im in game. I really want to upgrade something to make it smooth and load fast. Would buying 2 extra 1GIG RAM sticks help? Another thing is that i checked the task manager CPU usage thing and it says 95%, that number looks very high and not good at all.. so can i buy like an i5 cpu and use that instead?

You'll need to change your motherboard to am3+ board. But I would actually get the 2500k as it would perform better than the AMD.
