Dell GPU Upgrade

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to upgrade the family Dell Dimension 5000 desktop for my little brother, to save buying him a new laptop. He's 9, and he has started to get into gaming, so i'm looking for some decent GPU recommendations, as i'm not to up to speed with GPU's, as i'm not really a gamer.

The Dell currently has a Pentium 4 With HT @ 3.0GHz, so this wouldn't need upgrading.

It only has 1GB RAM currently installed, so i'm planning to upgrade to 3GB.

I'm going to add another case fan to be on the safe side.

Now for the GPU, with a budget of around $100, i'm looking for a PCI-e, that will work with a 450w PSU. It's going to be used for general entertainment, (SD movies, DVD's) and also some moderate gaming, nothing like the top end games, more Battlefield 2, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2, etc.

Thanks,

What kind of 450 watt psu? A generic 450 watt or something like a corsair/ocz power supply? If its a quality it should handle something like a 9800gt fine, if not id look at something like a 9600gt or hd4650.

Ok then, i would recommend either going for a power supply upgrade and a gpu.... or just settle for a lower end card like a 4650, a power supply upgrade though would provide you with headroom for more future upgrades if you ever decide to upgrade to a better mobo+cpu, etc.
