Dell Inspiron 3671 VGA port not working

Hi,

I need some help with my Dell inspiron 3671 desktop.
We had a power cut and since then my both pc’s isn’t working properly.
The issue is that when I turn them on, the power light is on and the HDD light is flashing, so everything sounds good, but the screen is showing that signal is coming but stays blank.
After playing around I found that if I use a HDMI>VGA converter then it works fine, only the VGA port doesn’t work.
Also on windows 10 it’s showing that two screens are connected but really only one is connected via HDMI.

I have tried to update the graphics drivers and BIOS, but nothing changed.

A Couple of questions,
Does it make sense that the VGA port stops working from a power cut?
Is it safe just to use the HDMI port or could there be a risk if the VGA port is damaged?
If there is a risk, would a graphics card solve this issue or better to replace the motherboard?

If you need any more info, please just ask and I hope there will be someone who can help me.

Many thanks
James

Any damage can happen when this happens.

Yes its safe to use the HDMI

Either or but if its under warranty then get it replaced.

Thanks for your reply.

On a technical level, the GPU is on the CPU, is there another chip between the CPU and the VGA port, or which part could be the faulty one?

Also, I find it very strange that two identical systems have failed in the same way.

Unfortunately the warranty finished a month ago.

I appreciate your help.

It most likely damaged the communication between the chip and the vga port. The motherboard would have to be replaced. I would just use the hdmi port for now as video cards are still pretty high in prices even the ones that used to be cheap.
