Dell inspiron 6400 charging problem

Hi Ive had my dell inspiron 6400 about 3 or 4 years now. The battery lasts 2 hours easy and the laptop never let me down. Im running windows xp professional with sp3.

Basicly 2 or 3 days ago I unplugged the laptop power cable from the laptop then plugged it back in and it took afew seconds to start charging. Anyhow this was still happening for afew days after. So I decided to run the battery flat which I do every week or 2 weeks roughly then fully charge back up. Anyhow the battery went flat then it wouldn't charge it again. So I restarted the laptop it said the ac power supply was running low on start up.

It will only run on mains power but the battery been fine. But with this message saying afew times the ac power supply running low. It must be a faulty mains power adapter correct?

thanks

First test to see if you have a loose power jack on the laptop. That is the first thing that usually goes on laptops as far as power wise. When plugged in, jiggle the plug to see if it starts charging.

Makes no diffrence moving it about still the same. But working fine of the mains power and doesn't cut of moving the plug when battery out.
