I have Dell Inspiron 8200 and recently just re-installed XP with updates.
For some reason, everytime I install XP with new updates the Inspiron just freezes up after booting up a computer.... It freezes and works for 2 minutes and freezes again. Can anyone help? I can install XP without any updates without any Freezing problems.

You can try restoring the computer back... not sure if it's the OS updates or something else going on. But to make certain, do a system restore prior to you doing those updates and see if your computer still crashes during the boot-up. IF it does, then something else is going on... a PSU or a bad mobo, or even RAM could be at caused... but first, do the restore and see what happens.

Just my 2 cents!

Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm a customer advocate at Dell's corporate headquarters. My team was created to help Dell customers via blogs and forums. We saw your post and I wanted to see if I can help.

Were you having any issues with that system prior to installing that version of XP? When you stated it comes with the updates are you refering to Service Pack 2?

I would highly recommend running the Dell diagnostics on that system to see if there is a hardware issue with it. Normally the standard Microsoft updates that are on the install CDs won't cause these sort of problems. Unless you are running a system that doesn't have enough memory to support Windows XP.

You may have gotten a Dell Drivers and Resource CD with your system. If you pop that into the drive and restart your system hit <F12> to select to boot from the CD ROM. One of the options on the CD ROM will be a Dell diagnostic or utility partition. Select that and run the diagnostics. Try running them on the memory first to see if there is a problem.

Another area to check is to see if you're running an update install instead of a clean installation. You may simply be loading Windows on top of itself which can lead to some problems.

If you want some more detailed help feel free to email us at [email protected]. If you include my first name (Todd) in the subject line of the message it will help get the email routed through to me and I'll be glad to help you further.

Thank you,

Todd
