I am buying new dell inspiron and i don't know which processor i need. i am not a gamer and we watch youtube etc. and i will burn dvds from camcorder material. the processors are dual core and some are duo core and the speeds gp from 2.5 to 2.8 GHz and cache 2 fro 2GB to the most expensive with 8. do i need the more expensive or not:)

If your gonna be doing videos from a camcorder, and possibly editing I wouldn't get a dell. Not to cut them down at all, however when i had my Dell Inspiron 1525 it was crappy for videos. Also can you post the models you are looking at? their are a variety of Dell Inspirons. What about an HP?

The brand isn't going to make any difference what-so-ever. Most all machines run similar, if not identical hardware and performance differences are minuscule at best (assuming similarly speced systems of course).

Honestly, any decent Intel processor should be fine. The faster the better of course, but most computers today handle SD/DVD quality video without a hitch. I assume when you say you're capturing camcorder video you mean through firewire?

Hoenstly, I'd worry more about having a computer than runs Vista well (IE more than 2GB of RAM and such :P) than anything else. Slap XP on a one of those 2.2GHz with 2GB RAM and it'd edit SD video like nobodies business
