Dell Laptops - Vostro or Inspiron?

ok. imho, dont get a dell. i have had so bad experinces with them and i know some people here will back me up. But if you really want to go with dell, i like the insperon just b/c it looks better, but it is a choice of personal taste

To be honest, these were just in the "sweet spot" in terms of pricing. I don't want to spend more than $500-$600. These can both do some modest gaming, and have plenty of storage space. What else would you recommend?

id get the vostro just because it doesnt have any bloat ware

That's why you must have an OEM copy of Vista/XP laying around and just simply wipe the laptop's HDD when you first get it, load the OEM copy using the CD Key from Dell, and there you have it :D No crapware...

The Dell laptops are excellent, mines been great and I had an E1505 before this for a while.

As for which one, my friend got a Vostro and I got an Inspiron. The Vostro is cheaper if you dont have a coupon, however I got a $425 off coupon for an Inspiron Notebook of $1399 or more. Use this coupon code and you can get the same discount: P6413WWTNQDRL1

From my Dell experience and experience with Dell, the Vostro and Inspiron are supposedly one and the same machine with slightly different features.

First one is the cosmetics; the Vostro has a uniform black while the Inspiron has customizable covers. The Vostro tends to have a lot of business geared options, such as a standard 5200 RPM HDD, rather than an option for a 7200 RPM (you can try asking for a faster HDD for the Vostro over the phone although I'd recommend ordering online; Dell sales reps are deceptive).

Another business geared option is Vista Business of which, if you wanted to go with Premium, you'd have to go with the Inspiron (or try ordering over the phone). Otherwise, you are otherwise stuck with the feature-less Vista Standard or the expensive Ultimate with the Vostro (although, depending on needs, Standard may be a better option).

The Vostro doesn't have any additional sound options like software or hardware but it's not worth it anyways.

If I remember correctly, if you want to go with a Vostro, you might have to order over the phone. Otherwise, online, you'll come to a page where it'll ask you business name and some sort of ID. That may not be a problem depending on circumstances.

As far as bloatware goes, Dell is now offering the ability to ship their laptops without any additional software. It actually might be wise, if you're tech savvy, to order it WITH any free or additional software. Dell ships their laptops with disks for the additional software and a Dell OEM version of Vista. You can decide what software you like, reload Vista and load any software you decide to keep. It's worth it anyways to reload Vista as Dell will still load their own versions of utilities which will probably bog down your system.

Here's a link to all the available Dell coupons. Note that you can only use one and it might override any existing/automatic deals of discounts Dell is offering.

If possible, it might be wise to find a Dell kiosk and order from there as I've heard that reps will throw in upgrades and accesories for free, although, it might be mistaken.

Hope this wasn't too much..............
