Dell Latitude CPx Laptop

I have recently recieved a Dell Latitude Laptop from my Dad (Quite old) because he does not use it anymore from his old company. and it is pretty slow. So I said let me take a look at it. It is pretty up to date software wise with Windows XP and Microsoft Office 98 (Which I did not upgrade but im planning to). I booted it up and of course it was very slow. I went ahead and defragmented my C Drive but had notice that my drive had been partioned into 2 drives (C and D).
The one that I was running on was C that had only 4GB of memory, Yet D had 8GB of memory. Of course after that I cleared as much data as I could in My Documents, Internet Files, Cookies, Unwanted Programs, etc.... Then got Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Users. All my updates were complete. Yet the computer was still very slow.
My Processor is Kinda Old so that maybe the problem.

My Laptop Specifications

-Intel Pentuim III Processor 500mz Speed
-Microsoft Windows XP
-12GB Partioned Hard-Drive NTFS IDE
-Netger Wireless Adapter
-ATI RAGE Mobility-M1 AGP2x - 8mb Memory
-1028x768 Screen Res.
-256mb of RAM
-ESS Maestro 2E Sound Card
-Toshiba CD-ROM XM-7002B
-1024 Maxuim Ram Space
-Intel 440Bx Motherboard Chipset

Total Free Data-658mb

Please Help

Yeah, it's probably the 500MHz P3 that is making it so slow. You can try turning off the XP themes and running the 'windows classic' look, that may speed things up a bit since your computer is fairly old.

I have no viruses nor spyware. Did a clean sweep with my Mcafee Virus-can Interprise. I have tried setting it to windows classic format. Do you guys think on my partitioned hard drive i have a basic drive (C) and a Logical Drive, Extended (D) That i could just use the logical drive which by the way has 7.24gb on because I tryed to Run Windows Server 2000 on it and it failed and, I dont want to entirely reformat my hard drive.
Could that work???

something like that shouldnt really have XP, try windows 2000. its near enough the same, and in my personal opinion its better, even though i use XP... because i can :P
