Dell Latitude trouble

I'm having trouble with my Dell Latitude CPx (650 cumine, 12GB, 128MB, ATI M1 8MB). Sometimes it refuses to turn on, instead giving me the power and HD lights and the Caps and Scroll Lock lights and then turning off after 10 seconds. Then, when it actually turns on, it freezes up after about 10 minutes in Win2000. I think it's a hardware problem. Input? I've called somebody and he says it's most likely the RAM, power, or heat. TIA

Faulty RAM can cause all kinds of problems and may be the cause of yours.

Try cleaning all of the air vents/ports on the laptop using the vacume cleaner to suck out all the dust then,...

If your laptop has more than 1 stick of RAM... remove all sticks but the 1 in the first slot, then try running starting the laptop and see how it runs.
If it doesn't work, then try removing that stick and putting in one of the others into the same position etc etc.

I have only 1 stick of RAM and I will try to find my Memtest disc or burn a new one. I cannot test battery or AC adapter as I do not have a DMM.

sounds like problems with your ram, is it still under warrenty? If not pick up some standard cheap ram, or borrow some for the test

i ran memtest, froze after 25secs. ideas?
Could also be a bad CD-ROM drive (as wierd as it may sound). Try removing the CD drive and seeing if it will boot before going out and buying RAM. (Although if it IS the RAM you WILL need to get new RAM anyway).
