Dell Memory Question -

I wasn't quite sure how to search for this question.

If I have a Dell and the RAM speed is PC2-4200/533mhz 512MB (2), can I upgrade to (2) 1GB as long is it matches the PC2-4200/533mhz?

There is a $$ diff. and that is why I wanted to ask before I went ahead with the deal.

Thank you for your help and if you need any other info, let me know.

If your motherboard supports that much RAM, then yes, if you get the same speeds then it should work, but since it's a Dell, there is a chance that only proprietary memory will work.

Supports

How can I tell how much RAM the motherboard supports? I know I have 4 slots now and 2 are empty. I have a total of 512MB (2-256). Any clocking websites out there?

Thank you

Ok, I see now. Thanks for the information. I just wanted to make sure that my computer wasn't going to blow  up with the max. memory.

dont you have to worry about latency as well...not just speed. Granted it wont blow up or anything but thats also a factor.

Latency

What does the term latency mean? I see it here and there, but never looked it up.

How does it relate to online gaming or word processing or just general surfing the net?

Online Gaming

I play a bit of online games and was wondering if 1GB RAM would be enough to have relatively uninterupted gameplay online? Or should I max our right away?

Thanks for all the help as usual.

Its enough for right now to get you by. but its definently recommended to go for 2 though if you want to be sure and to keep the pc up to date longer
