Dell Mini 9 or Eee 901 - Which is better?

At the moment I have a massive dell laptop (which is getting quite slow) but I need a smaller one to take travelling with me and to use at home as well for surfing the net and printing from.

I've narrowed my choices down to the Eee 901 and Dell mini 9 but can't decide between the two. Can anyone tell me which is better and why? Thanks.

Asus Eee 901, I wouldn't get the mini 9 because... well... it's a dell... So yeah get the ASUS if you want, I would recommend the 1000H though

The "it's a dell" argument doesn't really hold up for laptops. I have a dell latitude laptop and it's by far the highest quality laptop and the best warrantied support I've ever gotten.

Anyways, the Dell seems to have a better screen on specs as it's LED backlit. Otherwise, I'd just go with the one that looks better to you.

errmm, ya it does. obviously user experience differs, but the ones i have had experience with are not solid. their business grade ones are solid though.

thread jacking and bias aside, i would recommend the Eee, because i didnt like the dell option, Asus is a good brand, and i have heard good things about the Eee. my cousin has a 20G(?) and loves it.

I would go for the ASUS Eee 901 also, but between that and other models, the MSI Wind U100 would be something interesting to look at in comparison.

SSD is great, but do you really need it? Or would you rather have the extra space and do things with it?

Yeah you have a good point, I guess Dell has a large discrepency between their Inspiron and their Latitude line.

Anyways, there are more netbooks out there. Also take in consideration the HP one and the MSI one.

Go with the EEE! They have lots of different models at allasus.com from what I saw. They have a deal that if you're buying a full-size notebook you can get $100 off the price of any EEE. Or if you're just buying a notebook and nothing else, mention this forum and get $100 off the price of the notebook. It's gotta be a full-sizer, though - like 11.1" or above. Check out their site for more info and I'm sure they'll tell you. They helped me out! (though I haven't decided which one I wanna get yet)

My cousin had a dell laptop, and it failed him miserably, and the screen fell off... then my cousin had a dell desktop and it quit on him, I had a dell desktop and it would run slower than a windows 98 computer, my sister has a dell and we constantly have to change the bad parts, my friends have dells with the warranty and they are fine because every two months or so when they have problems they just call and tell them they want something changed and BAM they change it but still, they shouldnt have so many problems. That is why my "it's a dell" argument holds up.

Yes. Faster startup times, no noise.

Well I have an Acer that's falling apart. Seriously, I know Dell desktops suck, but their laptops aren't that bad. My school has over 100 Dell latitude laptops and they've stood the beating of student use for over 3 years now.
